Nevada Volunteers Collaborates to Present The Conference forProfessional Volunteer Management
Two-Day Training to Address Issues in Volunteer Management
(Las Vegas) – Recognizing the need for specialized training and continuingeducation for professionals in volunteer management and development, Nevada
Volunteers is collaborating with Directors of Volunteers in Agencies of Southern Nevada
(DOVIA), United Way of Southern Nevada and the Volunteer Center of Southern
Nevada to hold THE Conference for Professional Volunteer Management from 8 a.m. to5 p.m. on Oct. 2 and 3 at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino, located at 2411 W. Sahara
Ave.
“THE Conference for Professional Volunteer Management is a regional training eventcreated to specifically address today’s most critical issues in volunteer management,”
said Shawn Lecker-Pomaville, chief executive officer of Nevada Volunteers. “It is
important for volunteer managers to learn the latest in effective methods and strategies in
order to recruit and retain good volunteers, meet organizational goals, and manage
operations in a more streamlined and efficient manner. This conference is actually two
conferences in one: a basic track for new professionals and an advanced track catering to
the challenges of the seasoned volunteer management professional. We’re responding to
the new paradigm shift in volunteerism.”
The two-day conference will bring together managers from the nonprofit, governmental,
academic and corporate sectors. Interactive workshops will explore a variety of issues
regarding volunteer recruitment and management. Topics include: project development,
securing resources and the basics of volunteer recruitment; effective practices to include
persons with disabilities as volunteers; risk management; and identifying and
implementing service learning strategies to increase volunteer effectiveness. Hands on
Network trainers will present a one-day workshop, Volunteer Management 101,
Engaging Volunteers.
Dawn Gibbons, Honorary Chair of Nevada Volunteers, will be on hand to welcome and
address attendees. Keynote speakers include Linda Graff, president of Linda Graff and
Associates and internationally renowned Canadian consultant, trainer and author on
volunteerism and non-profit management; and Steve McCurley, nationally recognized
educator and speaker in effective volunteer management practices, and the author of the
best-selling Volunteer Management series.
