2009 Nevada AmeriCorps Funding Opportunity

Nevada Volunteers (formerly known as Nevada Commission for National and Community Service) announces the availability of funds for AmeriCorps Grants for the 2009-2010 program year, which begins September, 2009.

AmeriCorps grants fund and support high-quality programs that develop an ethic of civic responsibility in those who participate, strengthen communities by volunteer management and help meet local needs through service in the areas of environment, education, public safety, disaster preparedness and other human needs.  In exchange for their service, AmeriCorps members receive a small living allowance and education award for post-secondary education expenses upon successful completion of their term of service. 

Agencies sponsor AmeriCorps members to implement local community service initiatives.  Eligible agencies include non-profit community and faith-based organizations, state and local government entities, colleges/universities and school districts and Indian tribes.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate the capacity to administer federal funds; implement a detailed plan of action to address a local unmet need; present strong connections to the community it serves and have the ability to raise the required cash match, which averages $30,000Only applications submitted by agencies who attend one of the technical assistance conferences listed below will be accepted.

All applicants must participate in one technical assistance videoconference conducted at two locations:

 

September 15, 2008 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm   OR   September 16, 2008 from 1pm - 4pm

Las Vegas - Grant Sawyer Building -585 E. Washington Avenue, Las Vegas - Governor's Conference Room 5th floor

All applications must be submitted electronically in eGrants by OCTOBER 30, 2008 .
