“This is our most significant challenge: in changing
times, we cannot overvalue the importance of a strong
volunteer culture. Our volunteers translate our
intentions and our values into work that is useful,
meaningful, and mutually rewarding. We, in turn,
need to revitalise volunteerism, to ensure that it is
alive and well and resilient. We need to nurture our
garden of volunteers, to respond to their needs so that
they, in turn, will respond to ours.
It can be a beautiful reciprocal relationship: if
they get the best out of us, we will get the best out of
them.” Rethinking Volunteer Engagement, Volunteer Canada |
