Welcome to Nevada Volunteers, a new name for the Nevada Commission for National and Community Service, Inc. and a new look at the state of volunteering in Nevada. Nevada Volunteers plans to build a collaborative statewide infrastructure that supports already-existing volunteer efforts across the state; increases and improves volunteer opportunities; and improves volunteer management and retention.
The commission is in its 12th year as a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to award and administer the AmeriCorps*State funds, a national service program that rewards citizens for serving their communities with a stipend and education award. They also manage the annual Governor's Points of Light awards. Their goal is to strengthen Nevada through service and volunteerism.
"We're delighted with our broader focus which allows us to bring more
awareness to volunteerism in Nevada", said Shawn Lecker-Pomaville, CEO.
"This is a unique opportunity for Nevada to strategically utilize service and volunteerism to address many of our state's unmet needs."
